It’s time to update the “look” of your Web site…
How do you decide to update the look of a web site…? Will the money spent on a new look be well spent…? Will the results that you are getting from the web increase if you change the look…?
The answer is simple – a new look web site will easily increase the effectiveness of an existing web site.
A web site can get tired and if you have had the current look of your web site for over 2 years there are some very compelling reasons to update the site with a new look.
There are a number of expectations that users have now that they didn’t have a year or so ago – web sites should be easy to use, simple to navigate around and more importantly be linked in with the many social media platforms available.
With more people getting used to interacting with web sites for banking, online auctions and using many of the growing number of web based online tools – the demand for your web site to work like the online tools is growing.
If your web site doesn’t work like the users expect – they will find a web site that does – which could be your competitor.
Having a new public face to your web site that uses all of the new tools will ensure that your visitors interact with your web site more and that they get more engaged with the web site.
We sometimes refer to the new fashion of web site looks as being “web 2.0 like” as many of the online tools available to use follow a similar layout and look.
I often talk about being “web centric” with your online marketing and that means using lots of the new social media tools to point people to your web site.
The current web 2.0 “look” for a web site has a large bold colour band across the top with nice and clear “calls to action” in quite a large font.
The home page would have a main statement of “what you do” and “who you do it for” – as well as more text for search engine bait down the page.
Typically there would be 3 or 4 large primary navigation buttons for key areas on the top of each page within the web site as well as secondary sub navigation on the side of the page.
We use a mechanism from www.addthis.com to remind web site visitors about the social media tools that they use and to track the click throughs to the various social media tools for each site.
We also suggest using real people photos in the web site – especially if these are of your team members - as this helps “humanise” the web site – and after all, people buy off people.
The EC Toolset has been designed to easily update an entire web site with a new look and having a new look for your web site is an ideal opportunity to check the search engine optimisation of the web site too.
We can create a suggested new look for your web site typically within 2 or 3 business days and have it working with the signed off new look within the week.
We can update any logo’s or brands that are new for your business at the same time and also include links to any blogs or other social media content that you are creating.

Tineye is a reverse image search engine – you can use this to find any images on the web that look like yours or that have been directly lifted from your web site.
It’s a great way to check to see of any of your product photos have been stolen – or if any pictures of your staff have been mis-used.
You can either upload a photo from your computer to check or you can use an image link and cut & paste that into the tool.
