Facebooks Latest Updates and Tools
Keeping ahead of the game can be rewarding for your business and positions yourself and your team as experts in your field.
There have been a couple of changes on the social media front that I think you need to have on your radar and implement for your business – before your competitors do…
Keeping your web site and social media current and relevant sometimes seems like an “arms race” – once you do something different you then find your competition doing the same.
Being perceived to be different (and better) should be the reason that you are spending time on updating your web site and social media.
By updating often you let people know that your business is dynamic and that it is active in the many little ways you keep yourself & your clients informed.
Facebook Business Pages now have the “timeline” feature similar to that which was released on your Facebook personal account not that long ago.
This can be used to add events to your timeline such as when the business was started, when it moved locations or when new products or services were added to what you provide.
You can add large images to these events and so they show up clearly in your timeline.
Use these for new product launches or for various events that you are involved in.
Another new feature is the large “Cover Photo” at the top of the page – this is nice and large and could be used to showcase your products and services, to display your team photos or to showcase what you do best.
Ideally use great “hero” photos and have photos of people in them if possible to give the human element to your business page.
New Profile Images are also needed with the timeline feature – many people created tall business page specific logos which now get cut off at the top – so new ones with your logo or brand need to be created.
Along with highlighted posts for your founded date – posts can be “pined” to the top of the timeline for up to 7 days. Use this for your specials of the week to ensure that the important posts get seen by the maximum number of visitors.
A post can also be “featured” by using the small pencil icon at the top right hand corner of a post – like “pining” this gives that post better exposure by making it display in the full width of the timeline.
Posts can’t be both “pined” and “featured” though…
Facebook has removed landing tabs for Business pages now – so you’ll need to edit these or rethink your strategy for having them.
You can add Facebook Apps to the top of the page – and this can be used for other types of information to display such as displaying videos, photos or other apps.
Let us know if you would like us to create a new Facebook Business Page Cover Photo or for other help in getting the most out of Facebook for your business…
This is a new social media web site that leverages our interest in seeing great photos. You can sign up and showcase your photos and “like” and “pin” other people’s photos to various “pin” boards that you can create and name.
Pinterest.com is currently one of the largest traffic sources into some of the busiest websites around and so is generating a huge amount of traffic.
To use it best for your business – upload photos of your products and services being used and watch how the photos are shared.
There is an issue with copyright though – so be cautious about uploading any images that you don’t own the copyright to.
