Community action on youth & drugs (CAYAD)

Service Delivery Goal:

To improve the health and wellbeing of Turanganui A Kiwa Whanau by assisting and developing community action strategies against drugs and it's impact on our Rangatahi

CAYAD aims to improve the health of the population by reducing Cannabis, Methamphetamine, Alcohol and other drug related harm and to increase community ownership and capacity to address these health issues.

CAYAD Objectives

  • Developing community collaboration through regular networking with community agencies in the sectors of health, justice and education

  • Working with Sports Clubs, Schools, Whanau, Hapu and Iwi to develop harm reduction policies

  • Working closer with Whanau in enabling them to be more proactive and supportive of rangatahi

  • Building relationships with justice agencies to develop strategies to reduce the supply of drugs to young people

  • Networking with community agencies eg Education Providers and Sports Clubs to develop healthy alternatives for young people
